*These reasons are based solely on the allegations against Limecrime.

1. Fraudulent Behavior

The Limecrime website was involved in a malware breach which compromised the security of customers names, addresses, credit/debit card information and passwords. This happened in the timeframe of approximately October 2014 to February 2015.

Since then, the company has posted only one notice on their Instagram page, @limecrimemakeup, referring to the incident as a “potential breach”. Word is, they only notified customers via email in weekly intervals. They were slammed with online hate which then caused them to display this on their website:

2. Poor Management

Word is, owner, Doe Deere, handled the entire situation in an unprofessional manner. Not only that, but there has been a string of allegations again Deere saying that she has a history of “shady” business deals. She has been accused of raising money for a charity which did not exist, leading many to presume she somehow benefitted from the Limecrime security breach.

Deere has also been accused of heavily photoshopping images to alter the look of the products and their colouring, leaving customers complaining that the product doesn’t in any way resemble what they received in the mail. But you will rarely see these complaints, as they are also known for deleting any negative comments on their Facebook and Instagram page that depict the product in a negative way.

3. False Advertising

A lot of people flocked to the fact that Limecrime is ‘vegan and cruelty-free’, but this too was false. Limecrime were found to be using beeswax and carmine in their product, yet failed to specify at the time of purchase. Many customers were spending more money for products that supposedly supported their lifestyle practices under false pretences.

*I, in no way, claim to know 100% of what went on behind the scenes of what has been labelled ‘The Limecrime Scandal’. However, I feel that these allegations are too strong not to share with my fellow beauties. We all deserve to be as well informed as possible so please don’t hesitate to research this yourself.
